artificial intelligence - Virtual reality as of recent, while still extremely new, is just about the topic of numerous opposing viewpoints. It's got caught the attention from the public for several reasons. Perhaps, this is due to the fact of all of the possibilities which virtual reality creates. Note that the number of choices are not pre-determined as either good or bad, for the reason that there are numerous opinions for the way ahead for this developing technology. However, regardless of the controversy this new technologies have aroused, society should not remain skeptical. Virtual reality has got the potential, if used correctly, to turn into a great technological advancement to help society in many ways. Before, virtual reality may be nothing more than a little step beyond video games. However, it's now apparent this technology can be used more practical purposes. These purposes include national defense, surgical treatments and various other applications. Society has not yet fully acknowledged some great benefits of virtual reality by yet because it's still under development. The reason for virtual reality remaining in its development for so long is primarily because of its complexity. The hardware that has developed to date is not able to result in the large calculations required by a virtual reality based machine. However, as apparent in recent years, technology is advancing in an extreme rate. This can be another reason why society's wants virtual reality should and have remained unwaivered. In Orenstein's story, she provides perspective with the average citizen who's obviously uncertain concerning the uses and/or affects that virtual reality may have upon society. The show she attended was quick to indicate the practicality of virtual reality however, it quit much to be desired. It would appear that Orenstein was disgruntled when she came to an exhibit and the topic of cyber-sex grew up. Perhaps it had not been just that it emerged but similar to the way it showed up. The concept of a man and woman in an online world and a man fondling the womans breasts was probably, although greatly possible, not a great first impression. It gave Orenstein the chance to explore the evils that virtual reality allows. Before too long, Orenstein knows that just like the computing age has hackers, the virtual age may have it's own high-tech delinquents. You can't prevent technology from being abused. You will see those who use VR rudely, stupidly, dangerously--just as they carry out the telephone or computer. Like the telephone and the modem, its popular rise will even get rid of the dependence on certain fundamental forms of contact with others, even since it enhances our ability to communicate. (Orenstein 258)

virtual reality - Here she is quick to point out that because virtual the truth is this type of new technology it is extremely easy for hackers to obtain their way with it. Perhaps she also points out that in order for society to simply accept this new technology they will have to accept it's risks as well. In the government's perspective use of virtual reality it is possible to see how this technology proves useful. Supposing the Usa found myself in a war, by using virtual reality pilots rather than real pilots the quantity of casualties would obviously be less. Pilots would fly their aircraft from your remote location via audio and video equipment in the form of virtual reality. As technology increases within the next several years it will become easier and easier for your pilots to fly planes from a remote location. However, despite all the lives this could save there's a down side to this. The down side being that perhaps this can stimulate the us government to react easier in the violent way. Without any loss of lives the only thing the government has to lose by attacking will be the cost of planes. Keeping this idea at heart, it is likely that the US will spend less time negotiating and much more time fighting. This is most surely a negative side-affect of virtual reality as it will weaken the partnership that the US has along with other countries. Integrating virtual reality with society is where many problems occur. It is clearly apparent that since this technology is so new society is unsure how it will fit in. This can be among why people's opinions are really varied. Many people see virtual reality as yet another tool that will aid society in many ways. Others see it as dominating society all together and affecting everyone's lives everyday. It obviously gets the possibility to be both and it's also easy to understand why individuals are so hesitant to decide. Perhaps another reason for society's not enough optimism is the fear that they'll somehow be taken from actual reality. Although quite ironic, for a long time society has stood a fear that technology will someday control their lives. Possibly the idea of technology becoming so advanced that individuals will not be capable of tell whether they are in virtual or actual reality. It's clear that technology has definitely affected society in recent years. However, it is quite challenging to predict the role of technology within the future. The opportunity of technology is unquestionably there, it really needs to be focused it the right direction. Technology most definitely is able to run out of control. Just the idea alone, of man creating technology and having it run out of control is one thing society has been captivated by for quite some time. Books and films depicting technology overwhelming society have been created with much of this idea in your mind. Perhaps it is possible that virtual reality will be that technology which man is not able to control and definately will dominate all of society. If this sounds like the truth, society and the people inside would become uncertain if these were in virtual or actual reality. It should be stated however, as a result of nature and precaution of society in general, it is extremely unlikely that anything such as this will ever actually occur. If society is intelligent enough to invent this type of technology it should be able to determine and control it's consequences. Orenstein introduces a good thing when she says, "This time, we've the opportunity to enter the talk about the direction of the revolutionary technology, before that debate may be decided for us"(258). Quite often in the past, society as a whole continues to be at the mercy of decisions produced by the ones from the creators of new technology. Within this quote however, Orenstein highlights by investing in fractional treatments people shouldn't only try but make it a priority to become involved. She, as much others do, check this out technology as creating a large amount of potential. Without the direction and influence of society upon virtual reality it may go down the sink, or even worse, develop into society's enemy of sorts. Towards the end of the story she attempts to depict how virtual reality will have an impact upon society if they enjoy it or otherwise. As I rode along the freeway, I found myself going just a little faster than usual, edging my curves a little sharper, coming a bit close than was actually comfortable to the truck merging inside the lane before me. Maybe I was just tired. It absolutely was an extended night. But maybe it simply doesn't go ahead and take mind that long to seize onto the new making it real. Even though you may wouldn't like it to.

artificial intelligence - She depicts that no matter simply how much society understands virtual reality, the human brain still has instincts that can't be controlled. That's one of many drawbacks of virtual reality. That no one is sure what to expect. Just as with some other technology, the sole approach to finding the connection between virtual reality are going to test the limits. Realizing that virtual reality has the ability to affect so many people in such a large plethora of possibilities there needs to be some sort of limitation. This raises another key controversy regarding who needs to be in command of limiting this virtual world. In the event the government is in control it could be abused and mishandled. However, if society being a whole is left to contemplate its uses, the affects might be either good or bad. Although society knows a lot about virtual reality there is still so much it doesn't know. Perhaps within the coming years, new technology can come out and individuals will be taught more concerning this virtual world. However, until that point, the questions will stay numerous and doubtful however the choices are unlimited.
