The Trager Approach uses self-help movements that Dr. Trager named Mentastics® (mental gymnastics). He was inspired by the waves of the ocean to become more graceful as part of his movement. While some think those things appear to be Tai Chi, it is actually free form movement without any steps to understand. Instead of exercises being performed in time of day, they're simple movements to integrate into daily life. For example, imagine your feet are round on the bottom being a rocking chair. Feel this by standing with your feet shoulder width apart. Then place one foot in front of the other in the comfortable stance. Make sure your legs are soft, not locked or bent. Gradually shift excess fat forward and back a little to have the rocking. Slowly leap forward having an awareness of that sense of the rounded rocker bottom.

Because the elderly tend to are afflicted by old patterns of stiffness and pain who have affected many areas of the body, the Trager Approach can be especially valuable in helping them age gracefully.
