To impress the crowd, especially when you're playing basketball, you need to have a vertical leap that will astound all of the people watching. When you are on the court, with this ability, you can do so much more. Although having this ability is good, quality skills are an absolute must. But the thing about this is you can train hard and get one if you are dedicated enough to the cause. Having the knowledge necessary to do the training right is the first step. It is through this proper training that you're jumping abilities will improve dramatically. Use the following three tips to make your vertical leap better than ever.

All of your leg muscles are involved with leaping, and your calf muscles play a critical role. Just before you leave the ground, it is your calf muscles that give you that last minute lift. If you want to make your calf muscles strong, there are several ways you can achieve this. There's several strategies for building your calf muscles, and only one of them has to do with regular natural exercise. An excellent strength builder to try with your calves are to do calf raises which work very well when done regularly. This workout is something you need to do with a full range of motion. If you do this properly, your calves will become stronger than ever.

It's possible to break up the physics of jumping and then decide whether you want to work on them all at once or in individual pieces. There is power involved with jumping, and that means there are factors that affect that power. You can quicken the speed with which you jump and get off of the ground when you have a certain amount of power. This includes a quick muscle twitch response that you can train through specific exercises. There is also your basic leg strength--including each major muscle group in each leg. Then you can apply efforts to increase the range over which you are able to exert some power. Increasing one area is nice but you'll have more power if you increase all three areas.

Stretching your hip flexor muscles will help improve your base strength and stability in all situations including vertical leaping. The absolute best way to stretch your hip flexors is to kneel down on one knee while stretching your other leg outwards. What you want is to achieve a 90 degree angle with the leg that is stretch out in front of you. Before you stretch, make sure the foot on that leg is absolutely flat on the floor. Slowly lean forward--this is the stretch that stretches out your hip flexor muscles. Then simply repeat the process on the other side but always go carefully and slowly. To truly improve your vertical leap, there are many more things to focus on other than jumping high in the air. Converting your momentum into a vertical jump is really the key. It is not as simple as simply running and jumping around. You want  to coordinate your physical movements, jumping explosively upward, coordinating both your body and mind at the same time.
